Specification: 1972 350sl R107 series.
Details:
Originally registered on 1st January 1973 complete with a letter from Mercedes stating that the car was manufactured between Oct 72 and Dec 72.
This really is a beautiful R107 finished in jet black with a black leather interior.
The interior has been upgraded to include Recaro front seats and the entire interior re-trimmed in beautiful soft black Nappa Leather. We oursleves rarely warm to these modifications but in this case we can safely say that whatever previous owner made the decision to replace the original seats made the correct choice. Unlike the original seats the Recaro seats hug you and make the overall driving experience a complete pleasure not to mention their stunning appearance. A very tasty addition. The car has also been face-lifted with the addition of the last of the series front spoiler and machine polished 15hole flat face 15″ alloys. Thus reducing the body role which the original 14″wheels are known for.
The car has an interesting past and from the detailed history file it is evident that it spent some of its life in America having been imported to the States from the UK and then in turn back to the UK when the owner retired. This may be the reason for the stunning condition of the car not having lived in our climate. The bulkhead and all other 107 problem areas are in superb condition and are a testament to the care this car has had over its life. The car was imported to Ireland on 03.11.2005 with a mileage of 85857miles by the current owner who has used it very sparingly over that 15 year period as the mileage now shows 89431miles. The car has been in a large private collection and was recommissioned in 2017 for the Gordon Bennett Classic Rally.
The recommissioning involved replacing the entire front end suspension ie. Wishbones top and bottom, ball joints, track rods, drag links, tie rods, springs and shocks all round, Brake lines, Master Cylinder, Servo, Pads and Discs, Sub frame Mounts and all servicable engine items. It has also had an electronic ignition fitted, Rear exhaust, New Black Soft Top and doors and sills were wax-oiled. The car needs for nothing and is a beautiful tight drive.
Summary:
Good original first series SL’s are hard to come by and even harder in this colour combination of Black with Black. This car defies its 48 years age and is absolutely stunning. It also sounds amazing as the early 350s were before the tighter sound regulations which came after. It is a turn key and drive away with confidence car.
